What horrors lurk behind the door in 2024?

January 14, 2024 grimmfest

Here’s to a great year for all Grimmlins!

A new year does of course bring a new crop of horrors and The Reaper is here to guide you through what awaits us over the next 12 months..

Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse bring a love story with a difference in LISA FRANKENSTEIN, written by Diabo Cody and directed by Zelda Williams –

A stuffed bear gets bloodthirsty in Blumhouse’s IMAGINARY, Rose Glass (SAINT MAUD) returns with A24’s LOVE LIES BLEEDING, and David Dastmalchian plays a talk show host dealing with a nightmare in LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL.

Go back to the start with THE FIRST OMEN which sees a woman travel to Rome and stumble across a conspiracy that plans to birth a great evil, Melissa Barrera and Dan Stevens battle a child vampire in ABIGAIL, and beware the knock at the door in THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 1

M Night Shayamalan is back with TRAP, a thriller set at a concert starring Josh Hartnett and his daughter Ishana is jumping into the genre pool with her feature directorial debut THE WATCHERS – based on A.M. Shine’s novel, the film sees a woman trapped with three strangers, all stalked by mysterious creatures every night.

Joseph Quinn, Lupita Nyong’o and Alex Wolff feature in A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE, Fede Alvarez (EVIL DEAD, DON’T BREATHE) brings us ALIEN: ROMULUS which is set between the first two ALIEN films, and SPEAK NO EVIL gets the remake treatment from James Watkins (EDEN LAKE, WOMAN IN BLACK) starring Janes McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis.

The ghost with the most is back as Jenna Ortega joins Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton in Tim Burton’s BEETLEJUICE 2, John Kramer returns in SAW XI, Kyle Gallner and Naomi Scott grin and bear it in SMILE 2, and Art the Clown promises a red Christmas in TERRIFIER 3.

Leigh Whannel brings a new take on THE WOLF MAN with Christopher Abbott, and one of the most intriguing and must-see films of the year has to be Robert Egger’s NOSFERATU – a gothic tale of obsession starring Wilem Dafoe, Bill Skarsgard, Nicolas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp and Emma Corrin.

We’re definitely in for some treats! As always this is barely scratching the surface, I’m so excited to see what horrors stand out this year.

And stay tuned for news on the highlight of the year –
