After the death of her sister, still distraught Abby is visited by a man looking to solve a series of murders by a motorcycle maniac. As their shared fear escalates, the killer’s rampage continues, leaving them both questioning who the real monster is.
GRIMMFEST SAYS: Gabriel Carrer, who wowed audiences with his minimalist and bone-crunchingly brutal take on the classic home invasion scenario, FOR THE SAKE OF VICIOUS, teamed with fellow Grimmfest Alumni John Ainslie (DO NOT DISTURB), makes a welcome return to Grimmfest with a similarly pared-down approach to the old school revenge movie. Riffing elegantly off such disparate references as classic Giallo, vehicular vengeance narratives from MAD MAX to Abel Ferrara’s THE GLADIATOR, and a whole raft of 70s grindhouse vigilante movies, from James Glickenhaus’s infamous, THE EXTERMINATOR, with its biker’s helmet and black leathers clad protagonist, to, in one particular sequence the infamous THEY CALL HER ONE-EYE), it’s a film that celebrates its genre roots, while rebreathing ferocious and feral new life into them. Deftly scripted and stylishly shot, with a series of spectacularly staged deaths, it doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, but invites you to simply hold on tight and enjoy the ride.
