A seemingly affable would-be director stalks and blackmails his actors into living a real-life horror movie.
GRIMMFEST SAYS: Quentin Tarantino got to live the dream, due to a combination of talent, timing, and good luck. But there are hundreds, if not thousands of ambitious movie geek would-directors that don’t get the chance. And they are all out there, in the wild, looking to find a way to get a foot in the door, whatever it takes. Starting from this premise, writer-director Adam Meilich spins a spine-chilling and sourly satiric study of sociopathic self-delusion, online content creation, and the darker aspects of the directorial process, set squarely in an online world of desperate ambition and frantic fame-seeking. Making deft use of the “desktop movie” format, and the multimedia information overload it enables, and casting himself, pointedly, in the role of the manic, motormouthed director, “AJ Wilby”, Meilich offers a mischievous meta-cinematic meditation on creative manipulation and complicity in which nothing is quite as it seems, and noone is entirely innocent. The viewer least of all.
