5 of the most disturbing horror movie endings ever!

June 24, 2025 grimmfest

Friday 27th June sees our next double bill at Mini Cini @ Ducie Street Warehouse, as we screen CENSOR & SAINT MAUD – get your tickets now!

To mark our showing of SAINT MAUD, which has one of the most disturbing final moments ever, join your pal The Reaper as we revisit a few of the horror movies that really did stick the landing and stick the knife in…

(as always this is just 5 of the best, not top 5 or anything like that!)

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

Sally’s gruelling journey in the baking Texan heat ends with her escaping an enraged Leatherface, but at what cost? As she is taken to freedom in the back of a truck, her hysterical laughing suggests the experience has broken her mind completely.

DON’T LOOK NOW

Donald Sutherland’s grief-stricken father has been seeing a small figure in a red coat all over Venice. With his daughter having worn a red coat when she died, it’s no surprise that one night he chases this small figure. What is surprising is when the figue is revealed to be a dwarf, who quickly takes a meat cleaver to poor Donald.

MIDSOMMAR

Christian is a shit and deserved to burn, but Dani’s smile as he burns? Chilling.

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT

It’s easy to forget just how shocking this ending was at the time and still continues to be. The frantic running through the house ending with Mike standing silent in the basement corner before Heather is hit by someone or something all adds up to one hell of a finale.

THE WICKER MAN

Speaking of burning! There’s no way Sergeant Howie deserves his fate, however the residents of Summerisle twist things. Edward Woodward’s cries of disbelief and horror stay in the mind, as he realises what’s happening and that there’s no way out.

There’s so many that could be added to this list – LAKE MUNGO, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, EDEN LAKE, THE MIST etc – but The Reaper would be here all night if we didn’t cap the list at 5!

Don’t miss out on seeing SAINT MAUD along with CENSOR on Friday 27th June…
